MMI-Facial Expression Database

The MMI-Facial Expression Database is a fully web-searchable collection of visual and audio-visual recordings of subjects displaying a facial expression. Although most recordings show facial expressions shown on command (posed expressions), recently recordings of spontaneous facial expressions have been added. The database consists of frontal, profile, and dual-view videos, and frontal-view high-resolution images.

The corpus has been extended by SSPNet to include more recordings of spontaneous facial expressions, to wit recordings of induced happiness. This additional partition has been manually annotated for the occurrence of smiles and laughter. More information about the different parts of the database can be found in Valstar & Pantic ‘Induced Disgust, Happiness and Surprise: an Addition to the MMI Facial Expression Database’, ELRA, 2010
